Ode to my father

As a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.
Deuteronomy 1:31

My father believes that children
Are God’s benevolence to a lineage
Treasures committed to their parents
So he lets himself shepherd them
Offering fortification & fortune

I’ve heard of fathers who bathe their children with curses
& then dry their future with a flaming tongue
But my father wakes up every morning
Breaks the dew of heaven on us
Greening us to greatness with his prayers—
Our shield against daily darts

Today, we are the celebrities he couldn’t become;
Giants the world applauds
But he, an unnamed hero who
Laid down his armour to watch us win
Oh, my father is such a jewel among other fathers!

Thank You Lord For My Life

Down-down-deep, my heart
A well of gratitude springs forth.
Ancient and modern king
Thank you for my life.

Thunder strikes, the heaven’s roars
Moon blackens, the earth quakes
Royal horses gallops and strong kings falls off their horseback
Lord Almighty, thank you for my life

Demons are your prisoners.
Angels in splendor serves you.
Heaven is yours, earth too.
Mystery and web of mysteries
How many mysteries have you Lord?
Thank you for my life

THE WORLD’S OLDEST LIBRARY

The oldest library in the world still exists!
Somewhere on earth
Not destroyed by moths
All bricks still the same
As they were laid
No cracks or breaks
As would’ve have been
When strong winds of
The mountain form
A two-fold force with
The tricks of time.

All of its pillars seem to
Have sworn an oath
To remain forever young
With the strong posture of the
Past well seen in our
Contemporary time
No not one worn out
By age.

The oldest library in the world still exists!
It’s roofing sheets of steel
Still shiny and rust free

Well-aligned to another
With tight screws like
A rogue held captive in
Hunter’s camp.

Unmovable it is
Incredible were those men
Of which it was said
They continued the construction
Based on the ASSIGNED DESIGN

The unfinished work of
Christ they took to many
Heights while they endured
For many nights the pains
Of haters crew

A pack of sovereign Jews
Devoted to religious doings
Committed to put their
Works to a stop.

The oldest library in the world still exists!
An architectural design
Housing 66 hefty books
In both shelves
Old shelves with uncracked
Scrolls waiting for someone
To stroll in
Take a walk and have a
Good read.

The oldest library in the world still exists!
Not in the woods
Or some interior zones
Oblivious to all.

The Three Abstractions

Time like air is boundless, existing independent of us
Helping us take note, employing us
To nurture after our to-do-list
Yet reminding us the risk
of not being
of not seeing
The thought of it as illusion only makes bold the impact on our vision
An endless circle
Old enough to seal life’s chronicles
Yet does nothing to change it
The only certified entity to bridge it.

Love like the sea, is deep
Accommodating everything cold
and warm-blooded
Not seeking its own way
Needs nothing external to become
Countless questions on its existence
Unending thoughts on its purpose
And like the absence of peace
Making monsters of those who go by without it
The true essence of its fragrance waiting always on those who have gone past feeling
to becoming love.

Death, what happens when you’re busy making other plans
Claiming more lives with its rude interruption
The least talked about of all three
Yet with each blow comes a string of thought on time and love
Each seized breath a trail of shadows to your canvas
With more questions than answers
How much time is left?
Is love evident?
What next after death?

Dawsk

How do I merge this two?
How do I correlate light and darkness?
Do I do away with the brightness of daylight or bask in vague thoughts of nothingness?
Should I?
Could I?
Will these sooted thoughts fetch me the spark needed to light up my world or
Merely scratch on the surface of my fears as the sun would the ocean at dusk and have me foiled?
Curled up, awake, in the stillness of the night is how I find peace.
Sitting, underneath starry skies is how I brood courage to face the streets in one piece.
Like parallel lines in harmony I see the dawsk start and finish up each other’s tune,
With little or no care if I blend in,
Saturating my words with a soothing tone.
But like black and white has different shades in expression
I am learning to grey up the dark spots of imperfection and
Whiten up the milky paths of uncertainties with rays of light.
Each day and night
Through rolling tears or stretched lips in spite…
In an endless dawn to dusk carousel,
I’ll stand,
Strong,
In between,
Tiring and trying,
Tiring and trying,
In my little caravel
Till I find my balance at dawn

Decisions

A decision is not glamorous
It is not about the raised chest of the champion as he declares his conquering conquests to an adoring crowd

It is a lot more than that with a lot less glamour
For a decision reduces a man to nothing more than his resolve
To stand

To stand when falling is convenient
To stand when running makes more sense
To stand even though he lacks the strength

A decision is both a man’s greatest defense as much as it is his greatest flaw for when life comes at him and strips him of all he once had

When life takes the glories in the alluring arms of yesterday
When life sails the praises of men to the next big sensation
When life takes one last bow as it exits in that fateful breath
May that man find I pray, a grateful appreciation that his resolve birthed the life he desired and his decision though tried and tested remained true

Do you know?

Do you know you’re my jewel and the apple of my eyes?
Do you know you’re strong and full of might?
So when you’re faced with the devil and he pushes you to compromise
Don’t give in to his schemes
Because to you, the devil is not a roaring Lion but just a pathetic mice.

PRESENCE

A Place as quiet as a grave but becomes a city of risen bones
Place of fortitude
Place of guidance
Place of tranquility
Place of Joy
Place of exaltation
Place of increase
Place of light
His presence is that place
Oozing with fragrance that sticks so the world can perceive his glory
Build you up like a fortress
His presence is a foundation your faith is built on, it will stand strong
Withstand the turbulence that this world brings
His presence is where you ought to be
His presence is where you would see him
