Introduction
There is no doubt that Christian Literature intends to teach us the Word without the limit to the printed forms of literature. Today there is an abundance of things being said and written in the name of Christ, to the point where many grow weary of reading it all. King Solomon warns,
“be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.” (Ecclesiastes 12:12)

There are no easy answers to the question of how Christians should approach literature and literary studies. We have tried to show that the situation is complex, open and challenging. Today, there is a moment in academic criticism when the study of religion and its relation to literature has become more viable because those who do not necessarily share that kind of belief have recognized its importance.
Our culture and belief may question the privileged position Christian institutions once had; but it is full of invitations to re-examine its ideas, texts and reading practices for a new situation which Penspeak offers.

THE EVENT

Penspeak is an initiative of the Christ-A-Poet Team to give a platform to the preaching of the gospel through poetry and other forms of literature. Contrary to the common belief of the expression of literature in only written form, Penspeak seeks to make known to the world especially to teeming youth what treasure that is hidden in the pages of great literary works such as the Bible, motivational books, internet volumes and of course original literary works from indigenous authors and poets.
We give a stage for the writer to speak and the listener to receive inspiration, correction, humor and understanding; all to one primary goal- that God is glorified in our art and lives!
Penspeak is also a means to reach out to the literary community and preach the gospel of Christ in their own terms such that it makes sense to the truth that Christ is in fact interested with them, their talents and is ready to use them and celebrate them in this world and the one to come.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY

Through the instrument of Penspeak, we are gathering a teaming body of Christian writers in universities in Nigeria. Our vision is to create an adequate breeding ground for God’s word through creative vessels. To establish that our art form and ministry can be impactful even while we pursue other goals in life.

The community provides a WhatsApp group where workshops, conversations and freestyles are engaged to allow for free expressions. Led by the Penspeak Planning Committee in each University, the community will be supported by the Christ A Poet Team to organize events such as meet-and-greets and our annual Penspeak Spoken Word events. This will also allow for mentoring opportunities and creative partnerships.

If your university does not have an active community, please contact the Penspeak Board to receive instructions on how to proceed with starting a community in your school. NB: The Penspeak Community is primarily tasked with all planning towards Penspeak events in their schools.

It is designed to accommodate sections for spoken word poetry, short stories, inspirational/motivational speaking, music, fine art, dance, worship all packaged in a fine mix to give any and everyone present an unforgettable experience in God’s presence.

It will feature Christ-A-Poet writers, as well as guest writers all, auditioned before the date so as to give a well-rounded presentation. The music, dance, and other non-literary presentations will be handled strictly by invitation.
