Mortal Kombat

It begins to feel like sight lessons from bats,
Like, can mortals really do any combat?
We learned that things built with hands
Have no base in eternal relevance.

When saints are breathing, seconds form,
Time can be hushed like a talking drum.
The sun stood still to watch Joshua,
Cos when stars explode it’s called supernova.

So when foes number like the hair on your head,
You can choose to worry or sleep instead,
For before your tables where filled with bread
Ancient Kabals did make your bed.

Shadow kicked to finish Him?
They ate thinking they could finish Him.
Conc fools will always think that many is more,
Bread of life listens to what you said at the door.

Victory is taught if you’ll care to listen.
Victory is tough if you care and don’t listen.
He honed His warriors in three years
Training that required less than three ears.

Shoulder of Heaven

Every poem I write should carry the Lord’s cadence
Like the prints of a boot prophesies of her owners
Every song that I sing should play hide and seek with time
Only being found when we GPS your fingers

But the kids hid from Daddy in the skirts of mortality
Human indignation fully kitted in folly jeans
Class of the Returning, Mama’s voice was instructive
Solid reputations are not accidental
God is good at sending help, though our times are rental
God is good at saying thanks, though the earth is The Lord’s.

This One

This one day I’m taking God’s grace for granted
There is no day that we didn’t reap what he had planted
I once had a copy I’d stolen and really wanted
Mercy can resemble losing all the game we hunted
After many days I was robbed of my disobedience
Blessed is the one who waits on the Lord’s fulfillment

Blessed is the one the Lord sends a Philip or Peter to
We are miracles, shocking all the world by the things we do
But after ages our stories become a living bible
That’s why we keep a special seat for the good examples

Every picture gets lost in this sea of data
If the child is from eternity, can mortals date her?
Six classes of food can fit in a pair of trousers
And after minutes or millenia, the Lord remembers

Yes, The Lord remembers

Living Rest

Rest is eternal king in a manger
Rest is Heaven’s song heard in a shepherd’s field

Rest is identity assurance that needs no proof
Rest is scripture defence when the serpent strikes

Rest is deep sleep on stormy billows
Rest is victorious king on water strolls

Rest is eternal pearls cast before mortal men
Rest is the birth of the church on confession rock

Redemption Memo

It began like this…

Clad in purple and linen, cat-walking with stiletto strapped feet,
I miss my steps

Fall into a gully of mud
Stumble into the midst of men mouthing profanity

Stench ooze from me like box of putrid egg

I become crafter of maleficence, of deeds done in darkness

Yet, I am of tender days than to perpetuate impurity
You, of purer eyes than to behold iniquity.

Lord, seems mother said you do not appose your eyelids like the sons of men?

But why are these befalling me
Or why should I be falling?

Like Martha, this is how I feel:
Lord if you had been here, my soul would not have been ensnared in the tempter’s trap

Now I come with a bunch of sins, my back bent into a hunch

Have mercy on me, Lord, have mercy and vanquish this vile!
Let these things cease, like when you stilled the storm

Will you discard the memento of your purchase?
The one you stamped by your blood on the tree, like Rahab’s scarlet cord hung over the window in Canaan?

Up till now, the spies are over the gate of my soul, watching, waiting to devour & divide me as a spoil—this moribund mortal

But the redemption of my soul is costly,
And in it, you promised sin shall not have dominion over me

This is why tonight, I recite to you the memorandum of my redemption
I hope you heed my cry and help me.

What Kind Of Love

What kind of love is this?
Can someone please tell me?
What kind of love is this?
I simply do not know
For a man to lay down his life
For the sins of every one
For a man to suffer so
For what he did not do
What kind of love is this?
Can someone please tell me?
What kind of love is this?
I simply do not know
I will call it divine love…
Oh Yes, I will call it divine love!

What kind of love is this?
Can someone please tell me?
What kind of love is this?
I simply do not know
For a king to leave his throne
To come to this wicked world
For a Lord to come down low
To save mere mortal men
What kind of love is this?
Can someone please tell me?
What kind of love is this?
I simply do not know
I will call is Agape love…
Oh yes, I will call it agape love!

What Faith Sees

What Faith Sees
Faith sees beyond the eyes of beings
that force a flight
through all clouds of sense
that brings evidence
Faith sees unseen things
Hidden from all mortal eyes
And brings to fullness
The good tidings

Faith sees a conviction power from heaven
That holds unto the promise God has given
As His everlasting love encircles us as we run
By His grace to strengthen, guide as we go

Faith sees a conquering power
Strong in might from weakness
Securely fixed in Christ alone
For the victory he won.
Faith sees the cross
As a melting soul repents
Of sin, as he admits his dross
And all is forgiven.
