I Choose This Place

Travellers: We are not sure where to go, neither do we know the way.
This is not a place we’ve been before, shouldn’t we choose the old place?
Pilgrim!?! Why do you still walk like you don’t care what we say?
Don’t you know we have walked through time more times than you have?
P…?

Pilgrim: I’m not walking alone, Don’t you see him?
I’m not going my way, don’t you see it?
The sign posts through His words, don’t you read it?
I’ve tread the path you wish you return to,
It seems more predictable but it’s wealth is empty, don’t you know it?
I’m not led by my will, don’t you feel it?

Traveller: Feel what?

Pilgrim: His presence, don’t you see the light – HIs light?
I’ve seen the rain, seen sun, I’ve felt peace, felt storm,
I was dead but now, I live,
Trust me, Life is home for me.
I would walk through thorns and rough paths
Cause I know its Him leading the way.
I can walk though fire, He said I would not be burned.
It’s as certain as His word says it.
He knows the way and we follow
Through His word, I won’t dash my feet against a stone,
No matter how bumpy the road may be.

Travellers: How do you have such insight?
We are greyed with the years of experience
But we have not known such things with much conviction.
We have heard but we have not seen,
We have learned but have not lived,
We store up words but reject the life,
We teach but do not repent ourselves.

Pilgrim: Faith is our sight.
I do not see the thoughts of my heart,
They are deceitful.
I choose to walk where He walks
I choose to run where He runs
His word is light to my path,
It’s safe in His arms,
I choose this place.

BOOK REVIEW: Dear Unloved

Author: The Christ A Poet Team
Editor: ChyD
Pages: 33
Publisher: The Christ A Poet Concepts Ltd.
Reviewer: Ubamara Ezenobi

The book Dear Unloved lives up to its title.

It is not unusual for human beings to fall into sad states occasionally, and Christians are not left out of the trend. While these tragic states may be caused by a variety of reasons, the different poets that contributed to this work have proffered only one solution: Christ.

Dear Unloved starts with Osione’s Crackhead, where she passionately describes the addictions we all at some point or the other go through with depression. You can see yourself in the words as she skillfully paints the picture of a man helplessly adapting to his companion. As we ride through the waves the poets craft for us with their symphonies, we find the same symptoms recurrent in the seemingly unloved human. Pain. Listlessness. Deep sadness. All of those words tell the same story.

Many of the poems in this book are duets, causing the rich blend of poetry and passion you’ll find within. There’s Project Proposal for example, where ChyD and Imani remind us of Jesus’ finished work at the cross. In their own words, someone already produced results for this problem. Dear Unloved resonates with suspense as the characters go through their own phases of darkness.

It is not often that I get to review a book that leaves me reading through, spellbound. The sentences got my attention. The choice of words left me amazed, and impressed. Ultimately, I started all over again, because I found it good for my soul.

If you’ve ever felt dark times, and if you are in fact going through dark times now, then Dear Unloved was written with your name beating in the hearts of the poets.

Submission

Children are known for plays
Errors and cravings for ice creams.
They love the Father
And He loves them too.

But in this kingdom
Sons submit all cravings
To the eternal will of the Father.
They approach Zion
Bowed in reverence.

Children are looked after
But sons bear responsibilities
The Father loves all
But the Sons knows His heart.

IT IS NO LONGER I…BUT CHRIST

Even though I was relegated
A high transfer fee was paid
To bring me into this new club

Christ celestial club
THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
A new heart and new spirit is given me

I love this Jersey, I love it here
The seasons are blissful forever.
Thank God it is no longer I
But Christ who purchased me.

Christrospection

Time’s refreshing there’s a threshing hand are pulling off
I’m uncertain as I set it there’s a shaky thought
First the focus was the process and out of the box
Then we grooved into the tracks that they warned us about
Who hasn’t had to fake forgiveness cause Love is the boss

Weld my hands to them ploughs and comot the noise
Yah my Jireh and the dark is in both of the testaments
Both of the testaments
And my brethren are runners from different walks
Sparking through the throng, Jesus with the miracles
Jesus with the miracles

Zero till he did it
None till he gimme
Sometimes it hurts, but chasing is fun
Faith say he will finish
Blind to the seeming
Sound the horns, let the Word Ones wake

Time to wake the message in the hearts of many men
What was hard before can eat the ease of acumen
Born to start infernos, tongues of fire on their heads
I said Take the full armor, they said Take your meds

Weld my hands to them ploughs and comot the noise
Yah my Jireh and the dark is in both of the testaments
Both of the testaments
And my brethren are runners from different walks
Sparking through the throng, Jesus with the miracles
Jesus with the miracles

Rise from the Dust

Love, I need you to rise from the dust.
You might not have the best words,
But I need you to speak
You wouldn’t move mountains with your thoughts.

Love, I need you to give that warmth
You might not be the best fit
But I need you to try
You wouldn’t feed with folded arms.

I need you to feel – again.
Feel the compassion that runs through My veins.
Since you are a child of me,
You’d see men as I do with the eyes of Mercy.

I need you to see – again.
Walk this path, it’s yours
Don’t forget who is always beside you,
Don’t forget who has always held your hands,
Don’t forget whose love has taught you,
Don’t forget whose words have kept you.

Love, I need you to be – again,
I need you to rise from the dust.
