God to the Man
Holy the hands
Heavenly broadcast
Bless the expanse
Son
Help souls flee the entrap
Meant for the more than a lap

Chains hit the ground—God’s love was the plan
and
God’s is the order and height
Inbuilt grace seasons the sub
stance
Will of the father
Be Saved or deleted and stolen from time and chance
Seas
Swim to the name and chant
Eat
Break ye the bread and pass
Eat
Drink ye the blood and bathe
Eat
Say to the mountain
Bless me

God to the man
All for the land—ugh!
Freaky escapes
Such high stakes—ugh!
God is too good
And there’s much more to be understood
Creation awaits and eternity is unto the fabric of food
True food made of the Word of God
Now Hiring
Now Hiring
We’re seeking Sons of God
Someone to take

God to the man
God to the land
God to the couch and God to the TV
God to the start of every man’s story
God to the air and God to the busy—easy, if a man hasn’t clung to money
God to the clung and to the ones set-free
God to the life and death of things
God to the man and to the scenes

God to the man
Do you read me?
God to the man
Do you read me?

Four Letters: Ruth

I feel loved and owned, on God
A quarter of the way there and yet enthroned, I trust
Like the Love of God is spread abroad and we’re all touched
Yeah we’re all touched
Small words from her smirk and in all the multiverse I blushed
Lord, I thank you from all of my heart, on God
I’ve never regretted taking this path, I trust

My mom told me a story,
About a woman of her country
Who met a young man, and fell in love with him
He didn’t seem so bad, his people were famed
They dated for a while and then they got married.
The woman’s new home was made of six people.
The Patriarch and his Wife,
The First Son and the woman
The Second Son and his Wife
The Patriarch and his wife came to this woman’s country
With some golden bravery
And the First son’s marriage was a big celebration
Because the Second was already married.
But not long after, the three men died suddenly
And the grief collapsed the whole family
Post-grief, With no grand kids
from her newlywed sons, both now deceased
The Patriarch’s Wife decided she would release the younger women
Let them remarry.
I am old, she said
Let me return to my country

And the Patriarch’s Wife left the town much richer
But now without her husband, and her sons never saw home. Hurrying on the bus,
she couldn’t help but feel followed.
Maybe it was the killers of her men, who knows?
She pushed and slid into her seat
Then froze, that woman was seating by the window
Her First son’s wife
She sat down.

The two women returned to the land of the Patriarch.
The older woman was born there, she ought to sit a matriarch
But now without the respect of when she first embarked,
She returned with the woman and an urge to attack
Anyone who said anymore, “Thank God you’re back!”

Meanwhile the woman went into the city and she found work.
Beautiful and sweaty when she’d concentrate
Very soon, someone spun it to the Boss
There’s this new worker they’ve been warning me about
Boss said chill, I will see her on my rounds

Of course

When He saw her there was no harm in her moves
Head down, numbered of the very least staff
But then she was beautiful
Days later those staff were getting special treatment
Days later only she was getting special treatment
She told the Patriarch’s wife of her predicament
The Old Lady asked, “what’s the name of the Boss? “
And when she replied, the Old Lady gasped
The woman shivered a little.
Had death followed them back here to be total?
The Old Lady said, you are very very blessed.
That man is my kin and you know his intents
Withdraw from his gaze, then go when I’ve said.
And you may have found yourself a bright future
God is thanking you for helping me with my chore

And so the woman found a husband in her dead husband’s hometown
And this time, they lived happily ever after.

How do I know?
Well because my name is Jesse.
And it’s my story too.

Proof

Your mercy still stand even when life shake me like generator wey no get fuel and when storm raise voice like market women, Your peace calm am, even JBL speakers no loud reach this truth.

I don waka inside fire, yet Your grace na the forth man for that furnace. Blessings wey full my hand, na only your fingerprint fit produce am.

My past be wan dey try drag me back like conductor wey no get change, but the cross sharpaly calm am down.

As your nails write my freedom na so your blood sign am like court truth. For heaven courtroom, Jesus stand gidigba which living proof reach that one Abeg

Him love no dey reduce; na so every trial dey shrink like cloth wey see hot water. Even when darkness wan argue, Your light flash am like police for check point, proof wey no dey whine.

When fear dey whisper like thief for backyard, Your Word shout “who goes you!” back.

I dey wake every day because Your covenant cover me like aluminium zinc for rainy roof. And my life? The testimony loud gan, na megaphone wey go always shout: God’s love go always be the final proof.

Country of our dreams

They say our country is going to seperate,
They say our country is a failed state,
They say we should run abroad because we will never run towns,
They taught us our suffering in silence ensures a graduation gown;
We were just trying to build a roof, but they said we are all bark and no bite
We were just trying to find some food, but they said we can’t eat what they haven’t…

This journey to the country of our dreams will not end us…
I do not pray for some future blessing, or that one day “e go beta”…No!
All we need is in us.
God, each other, tomorrow…

I do not pray for some wave of death, or that our enemies don’t make it to our comfortable
All we need is in us.
You, each other, tomorrow…
Tomorrow is asleep in the palms, three tiers can’t tear what God has joined together.

I pray that we see ourselves in each other’s eyes…children, all trying to breathe between sobs.
I pray that we accept each other’s differences… together, redefining the meaning of color.
I pray that we find each other, unity, and recognize how successful we are to have gotten here.

All we need is in us.
This journey to the country of our dreams will not end us…because Love is our true beginning.
And we’re just getting started.

I HAVE SEEN LOVE

Though the sun
Escapes beyond the rifts the cloud makes
The scent of dawn
Woven in sounds of streams and breeze

All birthing from genesis
From young- never cease
What’s been said,
Saying let there be light

None can stand His words
Through spirit-life words, we were formed
Blessing invoked when He said,
Let’s make man in our image

After our likeness
Having what he loves-
A lofty hope of divine liberty
Our will free, we were his

He in fore-age,
Knew us by names
Portioned us into diverse ministries
By the fore known destinies

Giving grace, blessing us His’
From a strong heart
Sunk and sickened
With excess of love
